Inauguration '09

Inauguration '09

The above text is hyper-linked to the transcript of President Obama's speech from Tuesday. We spent a lot of time on Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech in class. What effective strategies did Dr. King employ that you can find elements of in President Obama's? Would you consider this a moving speech? Why or why not? If so (or if not), do you think it achieves its purpose, whatever purpose he intended?

I thought the inauguration was very nice. In class we said that it seemed like it was classier than all the rest. Although it was the most expensive inauguration in history i don't see how it was the classiest. I did think it was pretty crazy that they made Obama re say his oath just because he messed up his lines. Obama did an amazing job with his speech and I pray that he guides our Country to where it needs to go.

I just want to say that I don't believe the class said the inauguration was 'classier', but just that it was the most expensive because of all the balls and security.
But I do agree that I really did like Obama's speech. Although in class some said it wasn't his best speech, I personally still liked it. I think he got the message across and people responded to it well.
I believe he'll do a great job leading our country.

Obama used lots of elusions in his speech. Just like Dr. King himself. I think they estimated about 2.5 million people were at the inauguration, that's how you know people want change. That's how you know people want to put aside their differences make change.Obama came in sounding real classy with all those elusions, real nice and smooth.

I actually enjoyed Obama's 1st speech as our 44th president. I do agree with the comment Mrs. Davis said in class with it not being his best. But still think that it was a great speech. I love his comment about how 60 years ago his father wouldn't have been served in a diner. It really does show how far our nation as come along since then. I think it was very inspiring to see him so determined to help guide our country in the right direction. It was good for me to hear admit that there was work to be done, instead of him pretending that it was gonna be like snapping his fingers. i love this quote. For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act — not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together.
Overall i think he did a great job. But this is also coming from an Obama supporter since pretty much day one.
