Reflect on the following statement from the Talmud:
"He who saves one life, it's as though he has preserved the existence of the entire world."

I love this. I really believe that that is true. You may save one person...but you never know what that person may amount to be! It goes back to the whole cliche saying "To the world you may only be one person, but to one person you may be the world." What if the person you saved was the person who discovered the cure for cancer? What if the person you saved helped thousands of children living in poverty? That ONE person you saved could do big things for the world. If you hadn't saved them, then maybe that would have never been accomplished.. One person can make a huge difference.
This is meaningful for me. I think that the one person who saves another, preserves the humanity of our species. This person embodies what makes us worth saving. And I also agree with Olivia. What things will the person being saved do for the world? Perhaps being saved by another inspires him or her to do great things for humanity.
The goal of this blog is to start and then ultimately maintain a conversation about Holocaust education and righting injustices in today's world. An amazing Holocaust survivor once reminded me of a quote by Edmund Burke that "all it takes for evil to triumph in the world is for good men to stand by and do nothing." We are those "good men." YOU are those "good men" of the future. What are we doing? Please feel free to comment on any postings, both current and past (and even future) students!
I am so lucky to have an amazing job at the best high school in the whole world, teaching the most wonderful students (MOST days)! This is where you can hear my musings, reflections on literature, and showcase assignments.
