Inauguration '09 The above text is hyper-linked to the transcript of President Obama's Inaugural speech from a year ago. We spent a lot of time on Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech in class. What effective strategies did Dr. King employ that you can find elements of in President Obama's? Would you consider this a moving speech? Why or why not? If so (or if not), do you think it achieves its purpose, whatever purpose he intended?

Like Dr. King, President Obama used some good imagery. He also used parallelism and repetition. I don't think that Obama's speech was as motivating as King's, though. Also like King, Obama continually refered back to our founding fathers and the constitution which I thought was good.
I agree with Michelle. I think that the speeches were very similar, and that president Obama intended it to be that way. These are two very defining speeches in race relations over the past half-century. Altho i dont think that Obama had a topic that was as important as Dr. Kings.
I agree with Michelle and Trevor, in the fact that both speeches were motivational. But, I don't think that one was more powerful than the other, because they were both meant to build up the people of their time and will serve that purpose for years to come. I think that if we give President Obama's speech time, it will be the next most motivational speech for rigths considering they both share genuine sincerity.
