  1. "When you think of the long and gloomy history of man, you will find more hideous crimes have been committed in the name of obedience than have ever been committed in the name of rebellion." ~ C.P. Snow

All the genocides that have happened seem to only be possible because the bystanders did nothing. They obeyed orders and did what they were told. This shows the impact that not doing anything can have on the world. One act of defiance could have been the act needed to make other bystanders realize the wrongness of their actions and maybe even move to put a stop to it. If the rest of the world realized this, then maybe that one person would take the initiative to stand up against tragic events that will inevitably happen in the future.

  2. " All the people like us are we, and everyone else is they". - Rudyard Kipling

I think this quote means is that everyone is different, all the people like us are we, as in a group of friends doing their thing as to everyone else is they from them not doing what your group is doing, doing the opposite.

  3. "Their synagogues should be set on fire... their homes should likewise be broken down and destroyed... let us drive them out of the country for all time." - Martin Luther, 1542

All I can say is wow. I genuinely thought this was satirical until you corrected me. Even after spending all semester in this class it still baffles me that someone could hate a group of people to that proportions. I can't fathom the level of hatred someone can have in order to wipe them out of a country for the rest of history, to completely wipe them out. I just can't get it no matter how much I analyze it.

I agree with Claire in the fact that the bystanders are the reason that it continues to happen. They may not have originally started it, however, they have a hand in letting it get to the point where it is technically a genocide.
